Fauquier County, Va., volunteer fire and rescue
To protect and preserve Fauquier County, Va., volunteer fire companies, augmented by career personnel, are responsible for fire, paramedic emergency medical services, rescue, hazard mitigation and emergency management. Career and volunteer operations run out of 11 independent fire companies, a training tower facility and training center, all of which are supported by just under $10 million annually. To operate this system with only career personnel would cost the county an additional $20 million per year.
