Inflation is driving up the price of everything from groceries to gasoline, and with interest rates continuing to increase, affordable cities are becoming more desirable. A new analysis from Empower ranks the most affordable cities for working adults based on data like home prices, average income, cost of living, and employment rates.

“Based on our analysis, the most affordable U.S. city for working adults was Sioux Falls, SD. Split by the Big Sioux River and home to stunning Falls Park, Sioux Falls is a big city with a small-town feel,” reads an explainer about the findings. “Sioux Falls has many fun attractions, including a zoo and aquarium, but it’s best known for its abundance of walking, hiking, and biking trails.”

In a survey of 800 workers, respondents ranked cost of living (55%), proximity to family (30%), low crime (28%), employment opportunities (27%) and home prices (24%) in that order. Other important considerations included good weather (22%), rent prices (17%), and access to recreational activities (15%). Denver was the most desirable city to live in (17%), followed by San Diego (16%), and New York City (15%).

The top 10 ranked cities can be found in the gallery above. Visit Empower’s website to review the complete list.
