State governments are self-sufficient entities but the federal government can provide them with help in numerous ways. Still, some states are more dependent on the federal government than others.
Financial news and information site WalletHub compared all 50 states based on each state’s federal funding as a share of state revenue, each state’s return on taxes paid to the federal government and each state’s share of federal jobs. WalletHub then ranked the states based on these findings to determined how federally dependent each state is.
