Grants available for government GIS projects

Redlands, Calif.-based ESRI and Austin, Texas-based Xplore Technologies are taking applications for their 2008 Mobile Government Grant program. Ten state, regional or local governments will receive more than $95,000 to fund projects that demonstrate how geographic information system (GIS) technology is critical in providing government services.

The grants can be used to fund the purchase of hardware, software or training for the projects. Oct. 17 is the deadline to apply for the grants, and the awards will be announced on Nov. 7. Completed grant-funded projects must be documented and submitted to ESRI by May 1, 2009. Information on applying for the grants is available at www.esri.com/grants.
