With summer coming to an end Sept. 23, cities across the United States are closing the chapter on a record breaking season for heat. July was the hottest month that’s ever been recorded globally, following the hottest June ever.
National records fell, too. Pheonix, Ariz., for example, all 31 days in July were at or above 110 degrees Fahrenheit, breaking its previous record of 18 days set in 1974. And last week, Phoenix surpassed the longest streak of days at or above 110 degrees with 54 in a row. The previous record of 53 days was set in 2020.
A ranking from Yahoo lists some of the hottest temperatures recorded in the United States during the month of July. The cities can be viewed in the gallery above.
