Top 10 American cities that saw the most wage growth over the last 2 years

With rising inflation, wages are growing, too—more so in some cities than others. A new analysis released this month by SmartAsset ranks the top 15 American cities that saw the greatest percentage of income growth over the past two years. The top 10 cities that made the list can be viewed in the gallery above.

“In general, median earnings across the U.S. rose just 3% over two years, but some cities saw up to 10 times that income growth. While such disparities can be due to a variety of causes, residents in these cities had economic tailwinds to help them through recent cost of living increases,” reads an explainer about the findings.

Notably, five of the top 10 are in California. The ranking was created by analyzing Census Bureau data for 124 of the nation’s largest cities, ranking them by the size of income changes between 2019 and 2021.
