Anyone pregnant for 22 months deserves a party, and it’s no different for the Fort Worth Zoo’s Asian elephant, Rasha. The Zoo threw an elephant-size baby shower in July and even registered the 30-year-old pachyderm for baby gifts at The Home Depot stores — great places to find elephant nursery gifts like shovels, rakes, hoses and more.

Even though Rasha isn’t due until spring, the Fort Worth Zoo planned to shower her with attention in anticipation of the arrival.

The Asian elephant is listed as endangered, and zoos across the country are taking steps to reverse the declining populations.

This baby will be Rasha’s second calf (she gave birth to Bluebonnet in 1998) and the second calf born at the Fort Worth Zoo. In 2002, no successful Asian elephant births occurred in American Zoo and Aquarium Association-accredited zoos.
