Yonkers, N.Y., mixed-income housing
Ground was broken on the site of an old public school for a new mixed-use and mixed-income development to replace outdated public housing in Yonkers, N.Y. Unlike older public housing projects that create "urban islands" of housing units, Schoolhouse Terrace, designed by Magnussion Architecture & Planning, is a multi-phase project that integrates community spaces throughout the buildings. Its second phase will be funded by one of the first U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development "Choice Neighborhood" grants in the country.
