Storm sewer conveyance upgrades in Greenacres, Fla.
In 2011, Greenacres secured FEMA funding to enhance the city?s aging storm sewer conveyance systems. FEMA covered 75 percent of the cost of reshaping of canal banks, slip-lining of storm sewer pipes, replacement of roadway crossing culverts and providing new pedestrian access throughout the project area. The design now meets today?s land usage and stormwater runoff needs and will reduce future flood losses. Collaboration between the Public Works and Finance Departments helped secure grant funding/adherence to grant requirements. The Planning & Engineering Department executed the planning, design and construction through procurement processes. The project was completed in 2013 with an approximate cost of $750,000.
