Queens library gets $32.4 million makeover
One of the busiest libraries in the country just got a major makeover.
The Elmhurst Community Library, in the Queens borough of New York, opened the doors of its new, $32.4 million building on Dec. 20, according to the Queens Gazette. The library sees 1.2 million annual visitors.
With 32,000 square feet of space, the new building is twice as large as the previous one built in 1906, the Times-Ledger reports. The library hosts 75,000 English language books and multimedia items, along with 28,000 books and multimedia items.
“When we invest in libraries, we invest in the future of our borough and our city," New York City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer said in a news release. "I am proud to help celebrate the grand opening of the new building of the Elmhurst Community Library, which will serve millions of children and adults for years to come.”
