The new Jacobsen Truckster XD heavy-duty utility vehicle serves as a replacement for the Cushman Turf-Truckster, that has long served the turf industry.

The new model boasts a 3,550-pound standard payload capacity. The sturdy bed on the vehicle features steel construction that is up to 75 percent thicker than comparable boxes. The bed provides up to 20 percent more cargo capacity by volume.

The gas model provides 32.5 horsepower and 51.6 foot-pounds of torque, and the diesel delivers 24.8 horsepower and 52.7 foot-pounds of torque. A Kubota engine powers the unit. The vehicle’s high torque allows efficient hauling of heavy loads and towing up to 2,200 pounds without trailer brakes (3,500 pounds with trailer brakes).

The utility vehicle (photo below, on right) was built to handle the daily rigors of a maintenance crew. What’s more, the manufacturer also put a priority on comfort, giving the cabin 25 percent more room than competing models. The unit’s optional suspension seat provides operator comfort for everyday operation and for longer tasks such as topdressing or spraying. The machine’s high approach angle allows easy operation in the most undulated turf conditions.

The company surveyed hundreds of superintendents and sports field managers on what they wanted from a heavy-duty utility vehicle. According to Chris Fox, product manager for Jacobsen, “The feedback was unanimous: they told us they wanted a truck with more capacity, power and comfort.”

The company officially launched the product two weeks ago at the Golf Industry Show in San Antonio, Texas, where it was featured in the firm’s booth. Actual production will begin later this spring.

Jacobsen has over 90 years of experience in the turf maintenance industry. The firm’s equipment is used on golf courses, sports fields and other formal turf areas across the United States.
