Chrome Shop Mafia tricks out Freightliner trucks with paint jobs and custom detailing

Portland, Ore.-based Freightliner has contracted with the Joplin, Mo.-based Chrome Shop Mafia, a specialty garage known for overhauling big rigs that have seen better days, to “trick out” two of its more popular models, the Cascadia and the Coronado (pictured). The two vehicles received new paint jobs and detailing as a demonstration to customers on the ease of customizing the vehicles for their individual tastes.

The Mafia gave the Coronado’s exterior a custom four-color paint job and added several Chrome Shop Mafia exclusives, including a stainless steel sun visor, hub covers, fiberglass double hump fenders, custom frame covers and more. “The entire crew had been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Coronado for some time, and when it came — wow!” said the Mafia’s Bryan “Bossman” Martin. “This is our kind of truck — with its long hood, traditional front end, exposed tanks and boxes, and a pretty respectable wheelbase. This rig offers a lot of potential!”

Inside, the Coronado received an updated dash and noise abatement materials. The Mafia also added custom details to the seats and dash, and options such as a built-in refrigerator and a high-tech driver message center.

Work on the Cascadia included a multi-color sunburst paint effect on the exterior, custom rear fenders, axle covers and light panels. Inside, the crew added custom-embroidered seats and floor mats; painted dash panels to complement the cab’s exterior; and driver-comfort accessories. “This truck has a modern new age look that everyone is sure to love,” said the Mafia’s Joe “Lil’ Joe” Overfelt.

The trucks were put on display at the “Guilty by Association” truck show, sponsored by the Chrome Shop Mafia in Joplin.
