Association awards fleet specialist and management certifications
The NAFA Fleet Management Association has announced its class of 2015/2016 Certified Automotive Fleet Specialist (CAFS) and Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) graduates.

The NAFA Fleet Management Association has announced its class of 2015/2016 Certified Automotive Fleet Specialist (CAFS) and Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) graduates.
The grads were honored at NAFA’s 2016 Institute & Expo that took place April 19-22 in Austin, Texas. The 2015/2016 CAFS graduates are:

To become certified, participants must pass a series of comprehensive examinations to demonstrate expertise in four of the eight disciplines of automotive fleet management.
Local governments see the value of the CAFS credential, says Kate Vigneau, CAFM, who is NAFA’s director of professional development. “NAFA has seen an increase in the number of municipalities and counties who clearly recognize the benefits of our certification programs. They demonstrate this by specifying that certain job positions require the designation as a term of employment.”
Vigneau says that her group’s certification initiatives are useful tools for fleet professional working with municipal or county fleets. “These fleet personnel face unique challenges as they seek to manage very diverse vehicle and equipment types with declining budgets, often in an environment where the fleet’s value is not recognized or well understood.”
The certification programs give recipients useful skills and tools, says Vigneau. Skills learned through certifications, she says, enable fleet managers to effectively explain key concepts to city councils. These concepts include the economics of effective fleet management, the disadvantages of delayed fleet replacement and the advantages of proactive preventive maintenance programs.
