“Porcupine Wire” Protects HVAC Systems from Avian Contamination

Written by American City & County Administrator

Rooftop HVAC systems are a magnet for bird droppings. When dried out, these droppings break down into disease-ridden dust that can be sucked into the HVAC system, circulated throughout the building, and possibly cause inhalation illnesses among workers. Stainless-steel Bird Spike Needle Strips place a mechanical wire-needle barrier between equipment and birds to prevent roosting. Come in 2- and 4-ft. lengths with flexible 14-in.-wide base strip and 120 wire points per ft. Mounting hardware is included. Also can be used to deter birds from parapets, roof ridges, gutters, awnings, rafters, and more. Nixalite of America, Inc., East Moline, IL
