Procurement-awareness activities signal that March is National Procurement Month (with related video)

Public purchasers are planning a variety of events to commemorate National Procurement Month. The Mississippi Association of Governmental Purchasing & Property Agents (MAGPPA) will meet Wed, March 19 at the Woolfolk Building in downtown Jackson, Miss., for its March 2014 Purchasing Month celebration. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the celebration will begin at 10:00 a.m.  The MAGPPA will have lunch at 11:30 a.m. before moving across the street to the Capitol for its Legislative Reception. The Kentucky Public Procurement Association (KPPA) will celebrate National Procurement Month on March 14 with a full day of educational and networking opportunities. There will be a presentation of a March Procurement Month
Proclamation that day. In addition, the presentation of the KPPA Values and Guiding Principles (VGP) Award to the 2014 recipient takes place that afternoon. It is a free event for attendees. For more information and registration details, visit this link.

In honor of National Procurement Month, Maricopa County, Ariz., is staging the Maricopa County Vendor Expo on March 4. The event will be held at the Phoenix Business and Workforce Development Center in Phoenix. For businesses, the event can enable them to:

- Meet County Procurement officers


- Meet with agency representatives and buyers


- Learn how to do business with the procurement office


- Discover upcoming bid opportunities


- Network with other suppliers and agencies

Several entities have issued official government resolutions. In his statement, Colorado Governor John W. Hickenlooper said: “Governmental purchasing organizations in the state of Colorado are committed to the highest ideals of honor and integrity in order to merit the respect and confidence of state, municipal, county, special district, higher education, school district or other local area government agencies and the public which they serve.”

The governor added: Governmental purchasing organizations are to be commended for their diligent pursuit of efficiency in the operation of government through their commitment to seeking goods and services of the highest value in terms of quality and price to maximize the benefit provided to the citizens of this state.”

In his proclamation, Mayor Jim Blucher of North Port, Fla., stated: “In honor of the more than 16,000 government procurement professionals receiving the support of the National Institute for Governmental Procurement (NIGP) throughout the country, the month of March, 2014 is being proclaimed National Procurement Month.”

Mayor Blucher continued: “This proclamation ahs been launched to further expand the awareness of the procurement professional’s role to governmental officials, the general public, business and corporate leaders. During the month of March, 2014, the city is recognizing procurement professionals for the work they do to ensure the values and guiding principles of the NIGP are followed by the Purchasing Division of the city of North Port.”
