In San Jose, Calif., there is a legal pet limit per household of two pets, but Tuesday, that could change for folks who get their pets vaccinated and licensed. The San Jose City Council will vote on raising the legal limit of dogs and cats from two to five per household, and only three of those pets can be dogs. At the same time, the council will vote on whether to punish cat and dog owners who do not register their pets. After a six-week amnesty period, violators could be fined $100 to $250 if their dogs and cats don’t have the required licenses. And, to back that up, the city will send workers door to door to check. The new proposals are aimed at making sure dogs and cats are vaccinated for rabies, to bring in license fee revenues and to help control the unwanted pet population. http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/local/9534133.htm
