Pew Initiative announces grant winners

Charlottesville, Va. – The Pew Civic Entrepreneur Initiative has selected 10 cities to participate in a $3.68 million initiative to equip a diverse group of citizens with the tools they need to play a greater role in community decision-making. The program is intended to broaden and strengthen existing community leadership efforts.

The cities selected – Albuquerque, N.M.; Anchorage, Alaska; Baton Rouge, La.; Greensboro, N.C.; Honolulu; Jersey City, N.J.; Lexington, Ky.; Providence, R.I.; Santa Ana, Calif.; and Shreveport, La. – will select a team of 20 “civic entrepreneurs” to participate in local and national training. Twice a year, the initiative will convene the participants from all 10 cities at national training institutes where they will examine the theory and practice of collaborative leadership.

Each city identified a range of issues it considered critical to its long-term health. Winners were chosen from a pool of 75 cities.
