Detroit works towards redevelopment plan
The construction is about to start on the approximately $500 million river walk and waterfront redevelopment plan in Detroit, and with it, the city hopes to resolve one of the last big problems standing in its way – the Cemex terminal. As one of three cement operations located on the waterfront, its towering silos have long defined the eastern skyline on the banks of the Detroit River. City development officials are floating a new plan that might turn the ugly eyesore into a work of art. It would allow artists to paint murals on silos that are part of the terminal. One of the stumbling blocks in the plan is that there is a gap of more than $10 million between what Cemex is asking and what the city is willing to pay to make that happen. http://www.freep.com/news/locway/cemen30x_20040630.htm
