Severe weather and upstate development are literally muddying the waters for New York City. The city’s drinking water has historically been so naturally clean that it has been mostly exempt from federal regulations that require filtration of drinking water, according to The New York Times. For the last year, however, federal officials have noticed a big increase in the water’s turbidity that may have to be dealt with, potentially with the construction of an $8 billion filtration plant.
