Oakland, Calif., has contracted with locally based Ninyo & Moore to conduct a geotechnical evaluation for improvements at the Peralta Hacienda Historical Park. Improvements will include four small buildings, an adobe wall, a stage, a garden and a playground.
Gardenia, Calif., has selected San Diego-based GovPartner to implement its RequestPartner Citizen Request Management system integrated with Tele-Works Interactive Voice Response for an unmanned 311 system. The new system will allow the public and city staff to use the telephone and the Web to initiate, monitor and maintain a central database of all service requests.
Tazewell County, Ill., has contracted with St. Charles, Ill.-based Sidwell to create digital orthophotography and convert all the agricultural parcels and select non-agricultural parcels within the county’s existing GIS mapping system.
Fox Metro Water Reclamation District, Oswego, Ill., has selected Wheaton, Ill.-based RJN to provide software that will manage the plant assets, work orders, warehouse inventory and costs.

McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas has contracted with FKI Logistex to supply the engineering, mechanical hardware, software, installation, training and testing for the second and third phases of the baggage handling, screening and sorting system at the airport.
The East Bay, Calif. Municipal Utility District has retained Ninyo & Moore in Oakland, California to perform a geotechnical evaluation of the Lafayette Water Education Center in Lafayette, Calif. The project involves the construction of an 8,000-square-foot education center, 15,000 square feet of exhibition gardens and parking for up to 60 vehicles.
South Florida Water Management District has contracted with Lakeland, Fla.-based Black & Veatch for full-service engineering and construction management for a $10 million Everglades Restoration Program and infrastructure needs for the area.
Palm Coast, Fla., has contracted with San Diego-based Berryman & Henigar to provide general engineering services for three years. The firm already has completed the surveying and design for a road widening of Palm Harbor Parkway and is working on a similar project for another road.
Getting there
Cecil County, Md., Department of Public Works, has selected New York-based Vollmer Associates to design replacements for two bridges in the county. Construction is expected to begin mid-2005, with completion scheduled for early 2006.
Hillsborough County, Fla., Aviation Authority has selected the Tampa office of Harmon to install exterior glazing and panel systems for Tampa International Airport’s “C” terminal.
Sarasota County, Fla., has contracted with Montpelier, Vt.-based Dufresne-Henry to monitor construction of a road widening project. The $4.3 million project is expected to be completed in 2005.
Florida Department of Transportation — District 7 has selected Kansas City, Mo.-based HNTB to design a new two-mile, four-lane suburban roadway north of Tampa, Fla. The new road will provide a direct hurricane evacuation route to the east.
Miami-Dade County, Fla., has purchased 50 hybrid pickups from Detroit, Mich.-based General Motors.
Wilmington, N.C. Transit Authority has purchased two streetcars from Wichita, Kan.-based Optima Bus.

Michael Baker, Jr., a Princeton, NJ-based engineering firm, has received the Grand Award in the 2004 Engineering Excellence Award competition, sponsored by the American Council of Engineering Companies of New Jersey. The award recognized the firm’s design of the Route 21 viaduct replacement project located in Newark, N.J.
The Lakeview Terrace Library, part of the Los Angeles City public library system, has been selected by the Washington, D.C.-based American Institute of Architects as an oustanding example of an architectural design that protects and enhances the environment. The library was designed by Los Angeles-based Fields Deveraux Architects & Engineers and Los Angeles-based Greenworks.
In Newark, N.J., the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commissioners (PVSC) has received a National Environmental Achievement Award from the Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies in Washington, D.C. The award recognizes PVSC’s Pollution Prevention Educational Outreach Program, which focuses on how litter, household and industrial wastes affect the quality of local waterways and is presented to third graders.

Menlo Park, Calif.-based Morgenthaler Partners has announced the recapitalization of rePipe, a provider of underground construction and pipe rehabilitation services to municipalities, utility districts, government agencies and other organizations.
Minneapolis-based Leonard Parker Associates became Parker Durrant earlier this year. The name change completes the staged merger with the Iowa-based Durrant Group.
Orlando, Fla.-based PBS&J has acquired Canonsburg, Pa.-based engineering firm TriLine Associates.
EDAW, a San Francisco-based architecture, design and environmental planning firm, has contracted with the Miami Design Preservation League to make improvements to the Art Deco District, including installing new sidewalks, planting street trees and installing new pipes to deliver water more efficiently for fire-flow safety.
