Clarkstown Police To Upgrade Wireless Network
This spring, the Clarkstown, N.Y., police department will install Motorola’s AirMobile that will allow officers to wirelessly and easily install upgrades to software on their vehicle computers at a hot spot rather than having to come into headquarters for manual and individual installation.
“While cars are being gassed up, started up for patrol, any new information can be uploaded onto the car computers simultaneously,” noted Clarkstown Detective Gerard King.
The system will cost about $45,000, most of it covered by a $39,466 Law Enforcement Technology Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services Office (COPS).
The grants provided by COPS aid enforcement agencies in the acquisition of new technologies and equipment, and encourage innovative crime-solving methods.
