That’s just sick
March 31 got off to a rotten start for the Luzerne County, Pa., District Attorney’s Office. That morning, a 43-year-old man went to the office, ripped a door off its frame and defecated on a chair, according to The Citizens’ Voice. The man had failed to appear for sentencing earlier in the week, and he had made threatening phone calls to county judges regarding his case. As a result of the incident, the man was jailed, and the DA began evaluating office security.
Foaming at the cup
Aliso Viejo, Calif., officials almost banned the use of foam cups at city-sponsored events because they were alarmed at the potentially dangerous properties of dihydrogen monoxide — H2O, or water — that is used in their production. According to the Associated Press, City Manager David Norman blamed a paralegal for believing an Internet hoax and mistakenly alarming city officials about the “dangerous” chemical. Although the measure was pulled from the city council’s agenda before going to a vote, Norman told the AP the city eventually may ban foam cups in an effort to protect the Aliso Creek watershed, which can be polluted with remnants of foam products.
