As more people are moving out to the suburbs, they still crave those city-living amenities like restaurants, shopping and engagement. So, suburban areas are adopting more urban aesthetics and principals, creating vibrant and connected communities.

StorageCafe recently looked at the best U.S. suburbs with that urban flair, to see where people can find the right mix of amenities. They analyzed 912 cities with populations between 10,000 and 100,000 in the 100 largest metropolitan areas across the country. The factors they looked at included residential landscape (housing affordability, new construction and housing diversity); demographics; business environment; shopping and dining options; health; education; safety; transportation options; and self-storage prices and availability.

The top suburban areas reflect the whole country, from east to west coast, but California did have four of the top 20 suburban hotspots. Click through the gallery above to see the best suburbs for a city-like environment.
