Gallery: 10 U.S. cities ideal for retirees
Over the last few years, there’s been a lot of talk about the impact of what’s known as the Silver Tsunami, or the impending wave of retirees from the Baby Boomer generation, which many worry will quickly reduce institutional knowledge in public organizations.
Over the next decade, the U.S. Census Bureau forecasts the number of Americans retiring daily will increase from its current rate of about 10,000 people to 12,000. And by 2030, all baby boomers will be 65 or older. But while the retirement of legacy employees is certainly a concern, communities that are well-positioned to attract retirees stand to benefit.
A new ranking from the online marketplace StorageCafe lists 20 American cities ideal for retirees based on “the things that matter most to retirees including an area’s safety and housing landscape, tax burden, weather and recreational options, and more,” a brief about the findings says. “While it comes as no surprise that seniors enjoy Florida’s beachside hotspots, with Cape Coral-Fort Myers and North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton both medaling, places to the north and east fill most of the top 20 positions.”
The top 10 cities can be viewed in the gallery above. The complete list of 20 cities, which were ranked from among 100, can be found on StorageCafe’s website.
