Worth attending: 2016 National Asphalt Pavement Assn. annual meeting (with related video)
The National Asphalt Pavement Assn. (NAPA) annual meeting takes place from Feb. 7-10 in La Quinta, Calif. The conference will provide insights on the latest engineering research results and industry strategies. Who should attend:
–Engineers responsible for asphalt production, road construction, and sustainability,
–Estimators who bid on asphalt projects,
–Legislative advocates for the asphalt pavement industry,
–Industry marketers, and
–Advocates and government agencies leading the way to create tomorrow’s asphalt industry.
Choose from several useful sessions that cover topics such as:
–Drone Technology in Construction,
–The Construction Industry’s Economic Outlook and America’s Economic Future,
–NAPA’s Vision for Performance of Asphalt Pavements,
–The Latest Innovations in Plant Technologies, and
–Best Practices for Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP)
–Drone session: Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), also known as drones, are increasingly being used in the construction industry for inspections, surveying, project scoping and tracking, marketing, and more. However, their widespread use and acceptance has resulted in concerns about safety and privacy. The FAA first issued proposed rules in February 2015 for the use of drones, and states are also considering other restrictions. This session will look at how contractors are using drones in their operations, how regulations may affect their use, and their future in the industry.
–Plant technologies and RAP session: This workshop will feature NAPA contractors and equipment manufacturers discussing current innovations in U.S. plant technology and best practices for increasing the use of RAP. Attendees will learn about these new technologies, as well as ways producers are able to achieve higher RAP use by adopting certain asphalt production processes.
Lou Holtz, the long-time college football coach and ESPN analyst (2014-2015) will offer his “Game Plan for Success” presentation at the general session. Holtz has been called “the greatest motivator of our time.” Holtz has made a career of inspiring his players and motivating them to be winners.
Robert O’Neill, team leader, Naval Special Warfare Development Group will deliver the keynote speech at the conference. The topic: “Never Quit: The Story of a Life Built on Successful Missions.”
O’Neill has served America as a SEAL, team leader, and senior chief petty officer at the Naval Special Development Group. O’Neill will share his views on the ingredients to a successful mission: the right people, preparedness, decision-making under pressure, and, above all, a commitment to never quit.
