E-Z Drill expands plant to streamline production, boost capacity (with related video)
E-Z Drill’s new factory expansion increases its production capacity by adding more than 7,500 square feet of floor space, roughly 20 percent more room, to its 36,355-square-foot factory in Perry, Okla.
The expansion will house an office and a new shipping and receiving area, as well as make room for the firm’s welding department. The project began in June with setting the concrete foundation and is projected for completion by early fall 2015.
“We’re adding on to our facility to meet the growing demand from customers in the construction, public works, and utility industries for our products and services,” says Randy Stevens, E-Z Drill vice president of sales and marketing. The new addition will expand the firm’s welding area, providing room for additional workers. The expansion will add more space for the company’s automated design and manufacturing equipment.
The expansion also plays a critical role in E-Z Drill’s internal logistical network. A new office within the expansion will pass any generated orders to the production crew. And relocating the shipping and receiving area to the expansion allows the welding department to spread out in the vacant space.
In addition to the shop expansion, E-Z Drill is incorporating a new inventory system to enhance the manufacturing process by minimizing waste and inventory costs. The new facilities will result in a leaner, more efficient operation.
E-Z Drill manufactures pneumatic drilling equipment for concrete drilling and doweling applications, including airport runway repair, lane additions and highway maintenance. The firm’s 210-3 SRA drill is self-propelled, allowing the operator to move the unit, as well as the air compressor that powers it, along concrete slabs from one drilling location to the next.
The company was established in 1987 and manufactures slab rider, on-grade and equipment-mounted drills with as many as five gangs as well as vertical utility models and concrete drilling accessories, such as dust-collection systems.
The video shows the E-Z Drill 210B-2 SRA performing concrete slab drilling. . The two-gang drill system’s drills operate simultaneously and are adjustable to drill every 12 to 36 inches on center.
