With this sewage, I thee wed
When picking the perfect wedding venue, rarely does the local sewage treatment plant come to mind.
But King County, Wash., is looking to change that. Yes, now you too can pledge your undying love for your partner just yards away from where raw sewage is processed, according to the Associated Press.
And you don’t have to worry about the smell. The Director of the Brightwater Environmental Education and Community Center, Susan Tallarico, told local TV station KIRO that, although receptions would be held mere steps away from the processing machinery, no odor is produced, as the center is completely contained.
So that’s good news.
But seriously, as easy as it is to poke fun at a nice, sewer-side wedding (bridal "shower" anyone?) the Brightwater facility isn’t your typical treatment plant. The AP reports the center boasts a full catering kitchen, audio-video equipment, a dance floor and ample parking. There is even a well-manicured park surrounding the facility. By our estimation, it's actually really nice.
It costs about $2,000 to rent the facility, and several inquiries into availability have already been made. One couple has already secured the facility as their wedding venue, according to the AP.
KIRO reports all funds raised from events at the center will go to the facility’s environmental education programs.
