NASCIO honors states for outstanding information technology projects
The Lexington, Ky.-based National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) announced the 35 winners of its 2013 Recognition Awards for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Information Technology in State Government. The winners include state initiatives in digital government, interagency collaboration, data management and more, with California winning in seven of the 11 categories. Other big winners include Utah and Massachusetts with four and Michigan and Pennsylvania with three.
Honored projects were those that demonstrated chief information officers’ support of public policy goals, provided cost-effective services to citizens and made solutions that were transferrable to other government agencies, Claire Bailey, Arkansas director and chief technology officer and co-chair for the NASCIO Awards Committee, said in a statement.
Award recipients in the 2013 program by topic are:
• Cross Boundary Collaboration and Partnerships – California, for its Online Voter Registration; Kansas, for its KLER Justice Solution; Nebraska, for its Network Nebraska-Education; and Virginia, for its Customer Relationship Management.
• Data, Information and Knowledge Management – California, for its Enhanced Call Tracking System (ECaTS); Georgia, for the Point Implementation; Michigan, for its Unemployment Insurance Agency Overpayment Recovery; and Pennsylvania, for its JNET and PennDOT Facial Recognition Integration.
• Digital Government: Government to Business – California, for its Electronic Services Expansion Project; Massachusetts, for iCORI (Accessible Criminal Offender Record Information); and Utah, for its Avenue H: Health Insurance Marketplace.
• Digital Government: Government to Citizen – Nebraska, for its Handicap Parking Permit Application and Management System; Massachusetts, for its mTicketing for Commuter Rail and Ferry Services; and Utah, for myCase: Self-service Account Management for Recipients of Public Assistance.
• Enterprise IT Management Initiatives – District of Columbia, for its Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO), Enterprise Contracts Management Services; Michigan, for Candid Assessment Delivers ICT Roadmap to Drive Improvements; and Minnesota, for Managing State IT through Service Level Agreements: An Unprecedented Journey.
•Fast Track Solutions – Delaware, for its State Police Mobile Crime Tip Line App (iOS and Android) and Nebraska, for its Capitol Live Mobile App; Utah, for its Legislative Bill Watch.
•Improving State Operations – California, for its Business Information Systems Project; Massachusetts, for its Juvenile Justice Enterprise Management System; and Pennsylvania, for its Pennsylvania Employee Onboarding.
•Information Communications Technology – California, for the Enhanced 9-1-1 Grant Project.; Hawaii, for its Mobile Emergency Command Interfaced (MERCI); and New Mexico, for its Wildfire Watch.
•Open Government Initiatives – California, for its Election Results Website; Massachusetts, for its Open Checkbook; and Utah, for its Open Transportation Data in the Cloud with uGATE and UPlan.
•Cyber Security – Hawaii, for its Single Sign On (SSO) for the Hawaii State Department of Education; Michigan, for its Cyber Training 3.0: New Solutions Addressing Escalating Security Risks; and Pennsylvania, for Managed Enterprise Internet and Security Services.
•State CIO Office Special Recognition – California, for The State of California GeoPortal; Oregon, for its Federal Tax Information (FTI) Joint Agency Committee; and Virginia, for its eGov Business Process Re-Engineering.
