Hooray! Atlanta gets a Ferris wheel!
SkyView Atlanta, a 200 foot-tall climate-controlled Ferris wheel, will be opening in American City & County's backyard July 2.
Overlooking Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park, the Ferris wheel will offer views of the skyline from more than 40 enclosed gondolas. “It’s going to be much bigger than the buildings that surround it… its going to give a great view…” Jason Evans, a spokesman for SkyView, told Atlanta NPR affiliate 90.1 WABE.
With the addition of SkyView, Atlanta now joins the ranks of cities like London, Chicago, and Santa Monica, Calif., which all have massive Ferris wheels – attracting tourists and entertaining locals.
Workers are now pouring 15,000 pounds of cement for the foundation, and pieces of the ride will begin arriving from Pensacola, Fla., June 24, according to WABE.
Rides will last approximately 15 minutes and consist of four revolutions, according to project materials.
Located on private property, SkyView was funded through private entitles, according to the project’s website.
