Couple visits Maine State Legislature for 65th wedding anniversary

Nita Lou Webb, 81, and her husband, Marcine Webb, 86, recently enjoyed their 65th wedding anniversary by watching Maine lawmakers debate L.D. 837, an Act to Clarify the Laws Establishing the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, according to a report in the Portland Press Herald.

Casanova, you ain’t, Marcine.

But don't scoff at the octogenarians’ choice of celebratory venues; they were actually checking off a “bucket list” item – to visit every state capitol, according to the Portland Press Herald.

For years the San Angelo, Texas-based couple has traveled the country, visiting capitol buildings. Their favorite, according to the paper, is New Mexico. Least favorite? Louisiana.  

Marcine’s health prevented travel for five years, but since his recovery the couple has been able to travel again. The Augusta, Maine, capitol building was the last stop in the Webb’s quest.The two found the capitol pleasant, and gave it high marks for its friendly atmosphere, according to the report.

“People welcome you with open hearts,” Nita Lou Webb told the Portland Press Herald. “You have honest, caring people here.”

When House Speaker Mark Eves announced the reason for the couple’s visit, the state representatives rose to their feet and cheered, according to the paper.
