Who do voodoo?
Opposition to a politician’s candidacy is nothing new. But using black magic to get a candidate to drop out? That’s one we haven’t heard — until now.
North Miami mayoral candidate Anna Pierre, one of eight candidates running for mayor, has found (among other things) chicken feathers, food scraps and candles on her office doorstep over the past three months, according to a Miami Herald report. As a part of Miami’s Haitian community, Pierre feels the intention of the ominous trinkets is clear.
“I found little dolls with needles in it. They put a lot of pennies at front of my office door,” she told the Herald, “I’m from Haiti. I know what that means.” Pierre feels the items are tied to mystical voodo rituals.
Attacks on Pierre haven’t been strictly spiritual, either. The Herald reports an anonymous person has been using a blocked phone number to demand she drop out of the race.
However, Pierre told the paper she would not allow the spooky spells and threatening calls put an end to her campaign.
“My campaign signs say to end corruption. Someone doesn’t want that to happen.” she told the Herald, adding, “They can put all the voodoo they want. I’m a Christian woman. I’m not scared.”
