APWA North American Snow Conference heads to Charlotte in April
The 2013 APWA Snow Conference, known as “The Show for Snow,” takes place at the Charlotte, N.C. Convention Center, April 7-10. The event will offer four days of winter maintenance education and a lineup of fleet and emergency management sessions, as well as exhibits.
The show brings together more than 1,500 professionals from cities, towns, counties and rural street divisions, as well as state and provincial transportation departments from across North America. With the variety of winter weather events occurring each year, even as far south as Dallas and Atlanta, winter maintenance programs now include more than just snow removal.
“The 2013 Snow Conference attendees will have the opportunity to sit in on many outstanding educational sessions featuring the best in snow and ice control, as well as the increased lineup of fleet and emergency management solutions,” said APWA Executive Director, Peter B. King.
The show offers four days of educational sessions and networking, technical tours, as well as an exhibit floor with expanded open hours. More than 120 companies will showcase products and services focused on snow and ice removal, winter road maintenance, and street and fleet operations. The show provides opportunities to network with manufacturers, distributors, consultants and other public works professionals. A Winter Maintenance Supervisor Certificate Workshop at the show covers all aspects of snow and ice control.
On Monday, April 8, the Opening General Session Talk Show, titled “Public Works and Emergency Response,” features an interactive general session led by a panel of experts.
On Tuesday, April 9, the general session will feature Jeff Hammond, a NASCAR crew chief who earned a number of NASCAR achievements. After his racing career, Hammond joined Fox Sports in 2000, and contributes to the race coverage on both Fox and FX.
On Wednesday, April 10, the morning is dedicated entirely to three technical tours that will include visits to:
Charlotte Street Maintenance Facility Tour — The Charlotte Department of Transportation Northwest Operations Yard and Administrative Facility;
Freightliner Trucks Tour — This tour highlights the Freightliner Trucks’ Mount Holly Plant; and
