Fire departments can apply to get free DuPont gear
Wilmington, Del.-based DuPont Protection Technologies and Pittsfield N.H.-based Globe Manufacturing are celebrating an industry milestone by giving back to U.S. fire departments in need. In honor of Globe’s 125th anniversary, the company has partnered with DuPont and the Greenbelt, Md.-based National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) to donate 125 sets of gear in 2012 to deserving fire departments. The gear is made of DuPont Nomex and Kevlar fiber technologies.
Through the donation program, all-volunteer fire departments that serve a population of 25,000 or less and are in need of new gear can apply to receive up to 12 sets of Globe gear. Applications must be received by May 31, 2012, and awards will be announced monthly between July and December.
Volunteer fire departments that meet the criteria are encouraged to apply for up to 12 sets of gear for their members. The application process is being managed by the NVFC. Find criteria and apply by May 31, 2012, at www.nvfc.org. Go here for an information page on the program. Check Globe’s page on Facebook for ongoing updates.
“DuPont is proud to participate in this important program with Globe and the National Volunteer Fire Council,” said Jeff Fackler, North American business segment leader at DuPont Protection Technologies. “Firefighters require and deserve innovative technologies with superior performance in order to do their jobs safely and effectively. Our goal is to protect more people from harm and that includes protecting those who protect us. This will allow us to protect more volunteer firefighters across the U.S. with our best technologies.”
“All of us owe a huge debt of thanks to the volunteers who are the frontline of firefighting in communities across the country,” said Rob Freese, Globe Manufacturing senior VP of marketing, in making the announcement. “Working with these departments is incredibly gratifying, and we’re so glad to be able to take this opportunity to improve the safety and performance of some of these volunteer fire departments with limited resources by providing their members with the most advanced turnout gear.”
“We are very pleased to partner with Globe and DuPont for this incredible gear donation program,” said NVFC Chairman Philip C. Stittleburg. “Globe is an extraordinary example of a company saying thank you to its customers by giving back. So many volunteer fire departments are struggling to provide adequate gear for their members because of financial constraints. Globe’s donation will go far to help these departments make sure their firefighters are ready when the call comes in.”
