Swimmers, on your marks
Greensboro, N.C., opened its 78,323-square-foot indoor Greensboro Aquatic Center (GAC) last month. Designed to host all major aquatic sports — competitive swimming and diving, water polo, synchronized swimming and other unique sports — the GAC has three pools: a 50-meter stretch competition pool, a 25-yard warm-up/down teaching and therapeutic pool, and a 25-yard diving well with six swimming lanes and eight diving apparatus.
With seating capacity for 2,500 spectators, the GAC can host high school and collegiate events, USA Swimming meets, Master’s swimming and U.S. Water Polo events, as well as local, regional, national and international competitions.
The multi-purpose facility is operating 15 hours a day, offering diverse community programming, including therapeutic rehabilitation and “Learn to Swim” classes in conjunction with the Guilford County School system and other instructional organizations.
