Fuel-saving engines
Ford’s EcoBoost technology is available on four-cylinder engines and in a truck application, the EcoBoost F-150. Turbocharging and direct gasoline injection boost engine output, reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency by as much as 20 percent. The system produces output similar to that of larger conventional engines, according to the manufacturer. Since the first 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 was launched in 2009, plans are on track to expand the technology to more engines and vehicles, including the Ford Edge crossover, Explorer SUV and F-150 pickup, with the Focus ST and C-MAX people mover following shortly.
