ICLEI announces Local Sustainability Leadership Award recipients
Nine local governments are among the recipients of Washington-based ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability USA’s (ICLEI USA) Local Sustainability Leadership Awards. The award winners, which also include two individuals, were recognized for innovation and implementation of sustainability and energy efficiency programs that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the quality of life of within the communities that they represent.
The ICLEI USA Local Sustainability Leadership Awards were presented to large, medium and small communities for their accomplishments in three categories: Energy Efficiency Implementation Innovation; Planning Innovation to Institutionalize Sustainability; and Community Outreach Innovation. Awards also were given to one local government staff sustainability leader and one local elected official sustainability leader. “There’s no question that local governments continue to lead the way in sustainability and energy efficiency, and these Local Sustainability Leadership Awards recipients exemplify this energy, passion and commitment to making our communities more sustainable and better places to live,” said former Albuquerque, N.M., Mayor and ICLEI USA Executive Director Martin Chávez in a statement.
