NASCIO report explores data governance
Good data governance is the key to good government for people, according to a new report from the Washington-based National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO). Part of a series on enterprise IT governance and data governance, “Data Governance Part II: Maturity Models — A Path to Progress” focuses on the use of models to measure a data governing system’s maturity.
The report outlines several maturity models that illustrate the perspectives, characteristics and issues that states may face in governing the data handled by their IT systems. “Effective management of information and knowledge assets requires proper governance to ensure the quality of that information,” said Dugan Petty, Oregon CIO and co-chair of the NASCIO Enterprise Architecture & Governance Committee. “Further, [state CIOs] need to ensure that information assets are properly valued and protected.”
“Data Governance Part II” is available for download from NASCIO’s Web site.
