California city helps unemployed mortgage industry workers find jobs
Paramount, Calif., is directing residents who have lost jobs in the mortgage industry to a new program that provides employment training and job placement. The Southeast Area Social Services Funding Authority (SASSFA) is administering the program, which targets mortgage and financing industry employees laid off after July 1, 2007.
Using a grant from the state, SASSFA will provide career assessments and workshops on job searching, interviewing, resume writing and networking. “We have received many calls from people who are having a hard time reentering the workforce after being laid off from the mortgage industry,” SASSFA Program Supervisor Jennifer Capp said in a statement.
SASSFA is a joint-powers agency incorporated in 1979 by the California cities of Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, Whittier, La Mirada, Paramount and Los Angeles County. More information on the program is available at www.sassfa.org.
