Are your bridges falling down?
In response to the collapse of the Interstate 35W bridge in Minneapolis on Aug. 1, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters called on all states to investigate bridges with similar designs. Tony Giancola, executive director for the Washington-based National Association of County Engineers, says counties also are inspecting their bridges, but the primary problem is that road infrastructure repair and maintenance is traditionally under-funded.
Does your county or city government have the resources to maintain the bridges in your district, or is more state and federal assistance required.
