Arizona City to Improve E-Government
By providing departmental and inter-departmental access to a centralized land-use database, the City of Peoria, AZ, will be able to realize greater efficiencies in issuing building permits and inspections; administering city zoning, planning, and development policies; establishing short- and long-range development standards; and enforcing code compliance.
The city has selected Accela Automation from Accela, Inc. as the city’s e-government land management solution. Peoria is upgrading from an Accela legacy system to the Web-based technology of Accela Automation to expand use within its Community Development department and achieve higher customer satisfaction by streamlining building, code compliance, and land use business functions. The contract is valued at $1.8 million.
Peoria also selected additional Accela products that expand and enhance the functionality of Accela Automation in providing access and services to the public:
Accela Citizen Access™ provides real-time, direct access via the Internet to the agency’s permit and land management activities. Online permit applications can be configured to allow citizens and businesses access to apply and pay for permits, schedule inspections, check the status of a permit or inspection, or print an approved permit directly from the Internet, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
A long-time Accela customer, Peoria nonetheless issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to several software companies in addition to Accela in its search for an upgraded enterprise solution. It ultimately selected Accela over its primary competitor.
“Peoria considered other solutions in the marketplace, but through their diligence determined that Accela Automation was the best solution for the city from a technology and risk management standpoint,” said Maury Blackman, Accela’s president and CEO. “The fact that Accela came out on top wasn’t surprising to us, but should be extremely significant to other jurisdictions looking for state-of-the-art technology solutions that make government services more responsive and accessible to citizens.”
