Colorado Community Launches E-Government Solution
Fort Collins, CO, has launched a new enterprise land management and licensing system. The Web-based solution empowers employees in the Building and Zoning and Community Planning departments to manage permitting, inspection, plan review, code enforcement, and other activities related to community development through one centralized database, improving inter-departmental communications and streamlining processes.
Fort Collins is located in northern Colorado and is home to more than 137,000 residents. The city is one of many jurisdictions in Colorado that are also utilizing e-government solutions, including Adams County, Arapahoe County, Arvada, Ault, Boulder, Breckenridge, Hudson, Larimer County, Longmont, Louisville, Routt County, Summit County, Vail, Westminster, Weld County, and Windsor.
Fort Collins had been using an Accela solution, ‘PERMITS’ Plus, for the past seven years to automate its permitting activities. The recent implementation of Accela Automation now offers the city an enterprise solution that is flexible enough to meet the needs of multiple departments and can expand as the community continues to grow.
“The upgrade to Accela Automation holds the key to improving our ability to deliver services to our citizens,” said Dan Coldiron, application services director at Fort Collins. “By providing the city with an enterprise solution that inter-connects our core land management activities under a central database, we can be more effective and efficient in responding to their needs.”
Additional Accela solutions support the city’s goals to streamline operations and improve customer service, including a GIS solution that provides automated maps from a central database; a mobile government software application that extends inspection management capabilities to the field for inspections, code enforcement, work orders, and service requests; and real-time direct access for citizens via the Internet to the city’s permit and land management activities; among others.
“Fort Collins is one of a number of jurisdictions who are upgrading their IT systems to take advantage of leading, Web-based technologies,” said Robert P. Lee, Accela’s president and CEO.
