In a report, New York’s power company, Consolidated Edison, claims that July’s nine-day blackout in Queens was not their fault. The 600-page report, compiled after a two-month internal investigation, claims that a variety of factors beyond the company’s control, such as an underground fire, led to the blackout that affected 100,000 people, according to The New York Times. City Councilman Eric Gioia calls the report a “corporate smokescreen” and Assemblyman Michael Gianaris says it is an “evasion of accountability.”
