The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority is expected to begin regular, random searches of passengers’ bags for explosives. MBTA police will swipe the bags of certain passengers with chemically treated cloth to test for explosives then ask the passenger to open the bag if the test gives them reasonable cause, according to The Boston Globe. Civil liberties groups say they may challenge the new procedure.
