After January, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will have the final say in who will be the superintendent of schools for the city’s Unified School District, but before then he gets no say. The city’s Board of Education plans to appoint the next superintendent before a new law giving Villaraigosa almost full control of the district takes effect on Jan. 1, according to the Los Angeles Times. The board denied Villaraigosa’s request to review the candidates for the job and to provide his input on the selection, and at the same time it is planning to challenge the constitutionality of the new law.
