Residents of Orange Beach, Calif., want some respite from the many freight and passenger trains that rumble past their houses. Trains are required to sound their horns within 1,000 feet of a pedestrian or vehicle grade crossing, but a group of residents want the county and area cities to establish “quiet zones,” according to the Los Angeles Times. Establishing the zones would require local officials to spend a large amount of money on upgrades at railroad crossings.
