San Jose, Calif., transportation officials are looking for money to offer a few more days of free transit rides when the city’s smog is worst. The free rides are part of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s “Spare the Air Days” program aimed at reducing smog by keeping cars off the road, according to the Contra Costa Times. Each day of free rides costs $2.6 million, and the commission is offering to pay $3 million to extend the program if the business community matches that amount.
