Census information shows that young, educated adults are leaving upstate New York, possibly threatening the tax base of cities located there. Officials are blaming a sluggish economy and lack of jobs for the 25 percent decrease in 25- to 34-year-old residents in 52 northern counties, according to the New York Times. People in that age bracket are beneficial to local economies, one economic expert says, because they are starting families and buying houses.
