The U.S. Census Bureau’s listing of the top five fastest growing counties in the country indicates that people are moving away from cities. Employers, looking for skilled labor, are moving out of urban areas, according to “Commuting in America” author Carl Laundrie, so people are moving out as well. Flagler County, Fla., north of Daytona Beach, topped the list for the second consecutive year with a 10.7 percent increase in population.

- Lyon County, Nev., near Carson City
- Kendall County, Ill., southwest of Chicago
- Rockwall County, Texas, east of Dallas
- Washington County, Utah, southwest corner of the state
