Two separate committees are working to cut the cost of the proposed 9/11 memorial to be built on the footprints of the World Trade Center in New York. After news earlier this month that the cost of the memorial was approaching $1 billion, a work group set up by the memorial’s developers started to simplify the plan to bring the price tag closer to $500 million, according to The New York Times. Meanwhile, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Gov. George Pataki formed their own committee in a move some say shows a lack of faith in the memorial’s developers. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/25/nyregion/25memorial.html
