Members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are about to get a lesson in campaign laws. As a result of an incident in which a captain used the department’s e-mail to encourage other officers to attend a political fundraiser, the department plans to train its members on laws that prohibit such actions, according to the Los Angeles Times. The sheriff’s department has a tradition of political involvement in local governments with at least six members holding seats on city councils or other government bodies. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/los_angeles_metro/la-me-baca24may24,1,7158669.story?coll=la-commun-los_angeles_metro
